Why Swaging?
Autoswage's unique automatic die swaging process saves
you money and time on your high quality contact pins,
connector pins and electronic and mechanical small metal parts.
Low cost, fast production speed and the elimination of scrap
metal make our swaging process extremely economical. Parts
manufactured by screw machine, cold heading, forming, drawing,
progressive dies and other methods result in higher costs and
slower production rates. Autoswage's cold form swaging process
produces high quality, reliable contact pins and
small metal parts at faster production rates and
a significantly lower cost to you.

Accuracy - Increased Strength - Reduced Weight
Swaging,a cold forming process, squeezes and shapes
cold metal into pin-shaped, small metal parts. It's a continuous
operation where the small metal part, in various progressively
developed stages, becomes its own carrying strip. After the last
die station, the small metal part is separated from the carrying
strip, or lap, and ejected from the machine. The progressive
dies are split into equal top and bottom sections. The bottom
half of the die is firmly attached to the machine base while
the top half is fastened to the reciprocating machine gate. As
the gate moves up and down at a rapid rate, the material is advanced
through the dies and swaged to conform to the individual die
cavities in a "progressive reduction" method. On each
stroke of the machine, the carrying strip is oscillated 90 degrees,
clockwise on one stroke, counterclockwise on the next. This oscillation
permits striking the part on alternate sides to ensure accurate
concentricity and uniform part development. Confinement
of the material within the dies is complete to eliminate any
possibility of flashing between die halves.
-
Repetitive Accuracy: Depending on the material used
and the shape of the part, a single set of dies will produce
as many as 25,000,000 identical small metal parts before retooling
is required.
-
Dimensional Accuracy: Autoswage can produce nearly
1300 small metal parts per minute, up to 0.400" in diameter
and up to 3.00" in length. Tolerances in both length
and diameter are +/- 0.003.
-
Increased Strength: The automatic die swaging process
thickens wall sections where diameters are reduced because
metal is redistributed throughout the part and not removed
unless necessary.

Saves You Money - Saves You Time
-
Materials Cost Less: The process begins with a flat,
metal strip stock, which costs less per pound than wire or rod.
-
Part Uses Less Material: We then make a hollow, tubular
metal part, using fewer pounds of material than a solid metal
part. Although many perceive solid metal parts to represent
higher quality, the opposite is really the case. Additionally,
you also save with reduced shipping and transportation costs.
In cases of consumer or industrial assembly, less weight
means less fatigue and fewer injuries.
-
No Materials Wasted: We don't throw any of that material
away. All other processes create scrap. Screw machines have
turnings, eyelet transfer presses and stampings have a skeleton.
With swaging, every pound of raw material becomes a pound of
swaged parts.
-
Fast Production Time: Machine rates produce parts
up to 1300 per minute! Not many other process can keep up
with our production rates.
High production speed and the elimination of
scrap make
automatic die swaging extremely economical. Its versatility makes
it a low-cost means of producing parts formerly manufactured
be screw machine, cold heading, forming, drawing, progressive
dies and other manufacturing methods.

Experience and Technical Leadership You Can Trust
We always work closely with customers in basic value analysis
to develop important economies and technical improvements unique
to the Automatic Die Swaging method.
Swaging Solid Wire
Autoswage's
proprietary swaging process produces some of the finest
square pins in the world. Our unique forming process
means smooth conical shaped tips for your .025, .045
or custom sized square wire pins. Our pins are smooth-ended,
without burrs, chips, gutter rings and the other inherent
quality problems associated with stamped and milled tips. |

- Redesign Existing Parts: With our leadership and experience,
we can design new parts or redesign old ones to reduce your costs.
Our experienced designers can suggest many ways in which slight
changes in your existing parts can greatly reduce your costs
while preserving function. Sharp corners can be rounded, chamfered
ends can be made spherical, undercuts blended with small radii.
And weight reductions are often as dramatic as price reductions
without sacrificing strength. The basic shape and function remain
the same - but the price drops drastically.
-
Better than Machined Parts: Most of the parts we
produce were previously produced on screw machines or cold-headers.
Our swaging is particularly well-suited for pin-shaped parts
in quantities over 50,000. It's the ideal process for electronic
and electrical parts, as well as mechanical components.
-
Fast Production Time: Our machines can produce more
than 1,300 pieces per minute, up to 0.4000 in diameter,
up to 3.000 in length. Some tolerances can be held to +/-
0.003, with surfaces finishes up to 8µ.
-
Comprehensive In-House Services: To complete the
fabrication process and deliver a ready-to-use part, Autoswage
offers in-house cleaning, burnishing and plating services.
